China's August LNG Imports Up Over 10%
China imported 5.19mn metric tons of LNG in August, up 10.7% yr/yr, the customs department’s data published September 23 showed. Imports were up month on month as well from 4.88mn mt in July.
During the first eight months of the year, China imported 38.33mn mt of LNG, representing a 17.6% increase compared with the same period of last year.
If the current trend continues, Asia’s biggest economy will end up with another record year in terms of LNG imports. Last year, the country's imports peaked at 54mn mt of LNG.
Meanwhile, China’s pipeline gas imports in August came to 3.15mn mt, up 3.1% yr/yr. During the January-August period pipeline gas shipments totalled 24.7mn mt, up 0.7% yr/yr, the data showed.
