China's Changning-Weiyuan Shale Gas Blocks Produce 3.62mcm Daily

PetroChina’s Changning-Weiyuan shale gas blocks now generate 3.62 million cubic meters per day, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) said in a press release Thursday.

The Changning block generates 2.36 mcm of shale gas while the Weiyuan block produces 1.26 mcm of shale gas daily.

As on August 18, Changning-Weiyuan area had 47 shale gas wells in production including 22 wells in Changning block and 25 wells in Weiyuan block, the company said.

The Changing-Weiyuan area was recognized as national demonstration zone on shale gas exploration and development by National Energy Administration in March 2012.

In the past few years China has been working hard to exploit its vast shale gas reserves. According to experts, China has achieved significant level of localisation in shale gas exploration technology.

Latest data from China Geological Survey said that China added 106.75 billion cubic meters of proved shale gas reserve in 2014, and total shale gas output hit 1.3 billion cubic meters in the year.

Asia biggest economy has set ambitious targets for shale gas production. Beijing aims to increase shale gas output to 30 billion cubic meters by 2020.
