China's First FLNG Terminal to Start Next Month
China's first floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal is expected to start operation next month, Reuters reported Wednesday citing local media.
"Construction of China's first floating LNG terminal is coming to an end ... It will be ready to supply clean energy to Tianjin city next month," the news agency said quoting Beijing Daily, which did not give further details.
In August, CNOOC was granted approval by State Development and Reform Commission for construction of floating LNG terminal in Tianjin.
The Tianjin LNG project, the first floating LNG project in the country, is expected to cost 33 billion yuan or $539 million.
First phase of the project is designed to have an annual receiving capacity of 2.2 million tonnes.
According to Reuters, the second phase of the project will involve the construction of a conventional onshore LNG terminal, with a receiving capacity of no less than 6.0 million tonnes a year.
