China's gas imports drop 10% in 2022

China’s natural gas imports via pipeline and in the form of LNG in 2022 dropped 9.9% year/year, the country’s customs department said on January 13.

Asia's biggest economy imported 109.24mn metric tons of gas last year compared with 121.26mn mt in 2021. The cost of imports rose almost 26% yr/yr, driven by surging global gas prices.

The imports in December 2022 came in at 10.28mn mt, the customs department said.
