China's Gas Resources Stand at 90 Tcm

China's estimated natural gas resources stand at 90 trillion cubic meters (tcm) as per a study done in 2015, up 158 percent from the last study done in 2007.

A total of 50 tcm can be exploited, up 127 percent form the last study.

As per the data pertaining to results of a national assessment completed in 2015 released by Ministry of Land and Resources on Monday, total oil resources are estimated at 126 billion tonne, with an extractable amount of 30 billion tonne.

The rise has been attributed to better awareness of the geology and improved technology, the Ministry said.

China's shale gas resources are estimated at 122 tcm with recoverable resources of 22 tcm. Sichuan Basin and surrounding areas are the main shale gas producing zones in the country. Coal bed methane resources have been estimated at 30 tcm with recoverable resources of 12.5 tcm. Southern Qinshui Basin, eastern Ordos Basin, eastern Yunnan Qianxi northern basin and the southern Junggar Basin are the areas holding these resources.
