China's July Gas Consumption Spikes
China’s natural gas consumption in July grew 18.25% year on year to 22.88bn m3, country’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said August 29.
Gas consumption has been trending higher since the start of 2017 thanks to government’s coal to gas switching policy. China’s natural gas consumption during January-June (1H2018) witnessed sharp jump as well. Country’s apparent gas consumption during 1H2018 grew by 16.8% year on year, according to government data.
Strong domestic demand has led a spike in LNG imports. Cumulative LNG imports in 1H2018 were 27.94 million metric tons, an increase of 47.2% from the same period a year ago.
