China's SAIC Group launches LNG dual-fuel car carrier

Chinese automaker SAIC Group unveiled its inaugural LNG dual-fuel car carrier, the SAIC Anji Sincerity, on January 17. The vessel, built by CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard, has 7,600 parking spaces and a displacement exceeding 40,000 tonnes.

The key highlight of the SAIC Anji Sincerity is its LNG dual-fuel clean power system, designed to substantially reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 30%.

The maiden voyage of the SAIC Anji Sincerity will take it to Europe, transporting the first batch of cars. Over the next three years, SAIC Anji Logistics plans to integrate a total of 14 ocean-going transport ships across various classes, ranging from 7000 to 9000 CEU, gradually expanding its ocean-going fleet.

The strategic expansion of SAIC's ocean-going fleet is a response to the burgeoning success of the company's overseas business. In 2023, SAIC achieved overseas sales of 1.208mn vehicles—an 18.8% increase compared with the previous year.

Another Chinese automaker BYD launched its first LNG-fueled pure car and truck carrier, Explorer No.1, on January 15.
