China's Top Energy Official Faces Probe
China's top energy official, Nur Bekri, has been placed under investigation by the country's anti-corruption agency.
The director of China's National Energy Administration since 2014 was suspected of a “serious violation of discipline and law” stated the country's National Supervisory Commission, according to the South China Morning Post. The term can be interpreted to mean anything from corruption to disloyalty to the ruling Chinese communist party, the newspaper added.
It noted that Bekri was in the Chinese delegation in a Moscow meeting with Vladimir Putin earlier this week. He was understood to have been taken away from Beijing airport on his return September 20.
The influential official told Tass this week that Russian gas deliveries to China could reach 80bn m3/yr if an outline agreement to build a ‘western route’ for Power of Siberia 2 pipeline is implemented.
