Chinese 1H Gas Consumption Rises by 15%
China's natural gas consumption during the first half of 2017 was 114.6bn meters3, up 15.2% year on year, according to figures released by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) July 20.
This should come as a boost for the government which has been promoting greater use of natural gas in the country. The last two years saw muted growth in gas consumption. In 2015, China consumed 191bn m3 of gas, up 5.7% on year. Last year saw consumption grow by 6.6% year-on-year.
The government is aiming to increase the share of natural gas in the country's overall energy mix from current the 6%-7% to 10% by the end of the decade.
Meanwhile, natural gas production during the first half was 41.9bn m3, up 17.9% year on year.
