Clean Energy Fuels breaks ground on RNG facility in Texas

Nasdaq-listed Clean Energy Fuels has broken ground on a renewable natural gas (RNG) production facility at South Fork Dairy in Dimmitt, Texas, the company announced on July 24. The facility will produce RNG from organic waste and will receive a negative carbon-intensity score.

The construction of the digesters and processing plant is estimated to cost approximately $85mn and is expected to be completed in 2025. The South Fork Dairy facility is set to be one of the largest RNG production developments in the country, with an anticipated production of 2.6mn gallons of RNG/year once completed, according to Clean Energy. All the RNG fuel produced at the site will be distributed through the company’s nationwide network of stations.

Earlier this year, the company launched its third farm-based RNG production facility in the US Midwest. This facility, located on a dairy farm in South Dakota, features a two-digester plant that is now injecting RNG into the interstate natural gas transmission system.
