Clean Energy Fuels expands RNG refuelling network in Southern California

Renewable energy company Clean Energy Fuels announced on June 4 the opening of two new renewable natural gas (RNG) filling stations in San Bernardino and Perris, California.

In addition to Clean Energy's expanding fuelling infrastructure, Cummins recently introduced its X15N engine, the first 15-liter engine powered by RNG to hit the market. The Cummins X15N has been road-tested by UPS, Walmart, Knight Swift, and other demanding heavy-duty truck fleets.

The new engine, which has similar power and torque to its diesel counterpart, can reduce carbon emissions by over 300% and NOx emissions by 90%, Clean Energy said.

"These station openings come at an opportune time as the demand for RNG continues to grow now that the highly anticipated Cummins' X15N is available," said Chad Lindholm, senior vice president at Clean Energy.

Clean Energy also signed an RNG supply deal last week with building material company Cemex for powering 39 of the latter's trucks in Southern California.

The company has a network of over 600 fuelling stations across North America. Last month, the California-based company launched its third farm-based RNG production facility in the US Midwest, with a two-digester plant on a dairy farm in South Dakota. Clean Energy Fuels has also partnered with Maas Energy Works, a leading dairy digester developer, to develop nine RNG production facilities at dairy farms across seven states in the US.
