Clean Energy Fuels to supply RNG for Cemex’s Southern California truck fleet

Clean Energy Fuels has signed a deal to supply renewable natural gas (RNG) to building material company Cemex for powering 39 of latter's trucks in Southern California, the company announced on May 30. The agreement is expected to provide approximately 300,000 gallons/year of RNG.

The fleet will utilise Clean Energy’s public station network in Southern California for fuelling with RNG. In addition to this new fuelling deal, Clean Energy will commission a private fuelling station exclusively for Cemex’s RNG fleet. Located in Rialto, the new station will include time-fill dispensers and a dedicated fast-fill dispenser. The construction project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, and Cemex trucks will begin fueling on-site soon after. Clean Energy will supply RNG to the new private station, as well as operate and maintain the site upon completion.

Transitioning part of its fleet to RNG is part of Cemex’s ‘Future in Action’ programme, which focuses on the primary objective of becoming a net-zero CO2 company by 2050. "Embracing renewable fuels isn't just an option; it's an imperative," said Francisco Rivera, Cemex US regional president – West Region.

Clean Energy currently has a network of over 600 fuelling stations across North America. Last month, the California-based company launched its third farm-based RNG production facility in the US Midwest, with a two-digester plant on a dairy farm in South Dakota. Clean Energy Fuels has also partnered with Maas Energy Works, a leading dairy digester developer, to develop nine RNG production facilities at dairy farms across seven states in the US.
