CNOOC Gets Approval for LNG Terminal in North China

CNOOC has secured preliminary approval for its proposed floating LNG terminal in Tianjin in northern China.

CNOOC Gas and Power will operate the Tianjin floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) that will have an initial capacity of 2.2mn t/yr and is likely to be operational by 2013.

The Tianjin project will be in addition to its three existing terminals. State-controlled PetroChina is also planning a 3mn t/yr LNG terminal in Caofeidian in Hebei province, raising the prospect of a glut regasification capacity in north China.
