CNOOC Starts First Chinese Onshore Shale Gas Project

CNOOC Ltd. has started its first Chinese onshore shale gas project in country’s Anhui province, the CNOOC's parent company China National Offshore Oil Corporation said in a statement on its website.

The operations started on December 29 last year.

Western Wuhu Yangtze block is under investigation, covering the work area of ​​Hefei, Wuhu and Maanshan City and four other cities, the statement said.

Reports suggest that China may hold 36 trillion cubic meters of gas but technical and cost issues have become an issue in optimal exploitation of this energy source.
