CNOOC starts Shenhai-1 Phase II natural gas development project

China's CNOOC announced on September 27 that production has begun at the Shenhai-1 Phase II natural gas development project in the Qiongdongnan Basin in the northern South China Sea.

The project sits at an average water depth of approximately 900 m and the development includes a new fixed production platform and three centralised subsea wellheads, with 12 planned development wells. The project is expected to reach peak production by 2025, delivering 162mn ft3/day of natural gas and 3,931 barrels of condensate/day.

CNOOC chairman Wang Dongjin stated that the company will continue to accelerate the development of marine energy and expand its deep-water oil and gas exploration efforts to support the growth of China’s offshore oil industry.

CNOOC holds 100% ownership of the Shenhai-1 Phase II project and serves as its operator.
