Retford Times: Sutton and Lound villagers say 'no' to coal bed methane drilling
Concerned Lound and Sutton-cum-Lound villagers were joined by eco campaigners to condemn plans they say could lead to controversial fracking near their hom
The 25-strong group gathered outside a site between Lound and Daneshill Lakes at the weekend to protest against proposals to drill exploratory boreholes in the search for coal bed methane (CBM).
Campaigners claim if CBM is discovered, then fracking - extracting gas from shale beds deep underground by blasting them with a high-pressure mix of water, sand and chemicals - inevitably follows.
Those opposed to the technique say it is hugely damaging to the environment and can cause earth tremors.
