ConocoPhillips Finds Gas in Norwegian North Sea

Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has announced a gas find by ConocoPhillips in the southern North Sea.

The Directorate said that the 7/11-12 A discovery, near BP's Ula oil and gas field, required additional testing are needed to see if the shallow-water discovery is worth developing.

The second sietrack well, 7/11-12 S, was drilled to a vertical depth of 5357 metre that found additional gas, but with "poorer reservoir quality than expected."

Although the water depth was only 72 metres, both wells were drilled under technically challenging high-temperature, high-pressure subsea conditions.

Evaluations will be carried out later on the gas finds, which are described as high temperature and high pressure (HTHP) wells. Formation testing has not yet been performed on the finds, but  data acquisition and sampling have been carried out. .

ConocoPhillips is the operator of the production licence, number 301C, with a 22-percent ownership interest. Its partners are OMV with 30 percent, DONG with 28 percent and Talisman with 20 percent.
