ConocoPhillips Makes Norwegian Gas Find

ConocoPhillips has made a gas discovery at a wildcat well in the Norwegian Sea, 27 km southwest of the Aker BP-operated Skarv field, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) said on November 11.

The 4,960-m well was drilled at production licence (PL) 1009 in waters 400 m deep. It encountered a 27-m gas column in sandstone layers in the Lange formation, with moderate but uncertain reservoir quality. Preliminary estimates place the discovery 's size at between 8 and 30mn m3 of recoverable oil equivalent.

ConocoPhillips has a 65% interest in PL 1009, while Poland's PGNiG has 35%. "The licensees will assess the results of the discovery together with other nearby prospects with a view to a potential development to existing infrastructure," the NPD said.
