ConocoPhillips, Total Prospect New Projects in Norway
US-based ConocoPhillips and France’s Total announced first oil production from Ekofisk South development in the Norwegian North Sea, prospecting new projects in Norway in the near future.
“This start-up, together with those of Eldfisk II in 2015 and Martin Linge in late 2016, will significantly increase Total’s production in Norway by 2017,” Total’s Senior Vice President Patrice de Viviès said in a note released on Monday.
The Greater Ekofisk Area, located approximately 200 miles (300 km) offshore Stavanger, comprises four producing fields: Ekofisk, Eldfisk, Embla and Tor. According to a note released by ConocoPhillips on Monday, crude oil from Greater Ekofisk’s producing fields is exported via pipeline to Teesside, England, and natural gas flows via pipeline to Emden, Germany.
Total, like other majors, recently increased its acreage position on the Norwegian continental shelf. It obtained eight new licenses in the Norwegian North Sea in January 2013 and other two in the 22nd exploration round (June 2013).
