Daewoo Shipbuilding to Build Two LNG Vessels for Maran Gas

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) will build two LNG tankers and two very large crude carriers (VLCC) for Maran Gas Maritime, a unit of Greece’s Angelicoussis Shipping Group.

Maran Gas has ordered two 173,400㎥ capacity LNG ships with length of 295m and width of 46m. The vessels will boast DSME natural gas propulsion engine (ME-GI engine). As per the agreement signed, Maran Gas has option of buying two additional LNG vessels.

The two LNG vessel and two VLCC deal has been valued at $580 million, DSME said in a statement published Thursday.  This the first deal of the year for DSME. The ships would be delivered by 2019.

According to DSME, these carriers have efficiency 30 percent higher than regular fuel LNG carriers.

Including this new deal, Maran Gas has ordered 88 vessels from DSME and 21 of them are under construction.
