Daily gas consumption in Iran surpasses 608mn m³

Iran’s daily gas demand exceeded 608mn m³ on January 19, the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC)'s spokesman Majid Boujarzadeh said. That was up by 22mn m³ on the same day last year, Shana news agency reported.

Of that, power plants took more than 126mn m³, compared with 88mn m³ last year, he added. Major industrial units consumed 80mn m³, up by 5mn m³.

Residential, commercial, and small industrial units took 402mn m³, the official said, or about 3.5 times more than they do in summer.

The head of dispatch at NIGC Manoochehr Taheri said November 7 that Iran produced some 202bn m³ in the year to March 20, 2015 with demand at 190bn m³. Iran has an export contract for 10bn m³/yr with Turkey.

Statistics show that Iran produces about 550mn m³/day of sweet gas, which may rise during winter.
