Dana Petroleum Finds Gas in Southern North Sea
Aberdeen-based Dana Petroleum made two discoveries this week, finding gas in a Rotliegendes reservoir in the Southern North Sea and oil in the Moray Firth.
On Tuesday, the subsidiary of the Korea National Oil Corporation discovered gas in the Pharos Prospect in Licence P1566. Dana Petroleum is the operator in the licence in the Rotliegendes reservoir in the UK’s Southern North Sea.
“This is the fifth North Sea exploration and appraisal well that Dana has drilled as Operator or in partnership during 2013. Pharos is well located to take advantage of a number of gas export options in the area and we now need to undertake further detailed technical work to evaluate its commercial potential,” Paul Griffin, Dana’s UK Managing Director, said in a note.
According to the press release, the well was drilled by the Noble Lynda Bossler and the rig has now returned to the Dutch North Sea for further operations with Dana. The company will work on the evaluation about the volume of gas initially in place (GIIP).
Other partners in the licence are Hansa Hydrocarbons (15%) Dyas Exploration UK (15%), MPX North Sea (15%) and Parkmead (E&P) (20%).
On Friday, Dana announced it also discovered hydrocarbons in a Lower Cretaceous Captain Sandstone reservoir, reads another note.
