Stirling Observer: Coal-bed gas plans inquiry set to be held

A public inquiry is set to be held into plans for using an unconventional method to extract natural gas.

Dart Energy wants to expand work on extracting coal-bed methane at Airth.

The plans involve 22 new bore holes being created, and the Scottish Government is set to rule on the proposal after Stirling and Falkirk Council failed to make a decision on the plans.

The planning process will now involve a series of public inquiry sessions, after officers decided the complex technical information needs to scrutinised. A pre-examination meeting will be held in October to discuss and agree arrangements for these sessions.
