ECR Group: Debate on Unconventional Gas in the EU and Ukraine

“Ukraine’s strategic weakness is linked to market liberalization, modernisation and development of the transmission networks, as with aspects of market cost-effectiveness of this new gas. All three elements depend on strategic choices that face Ukraine today – the customs Union or the Association Agreement, Russia or the European Union. It is a pity that the EU does not try to get more involved and help Kiev to make the right choices. Our strategic interests will suffer due to this narrow and short-sighted policies” – says Konrad Szymański from Law and Justice Party (PiS, ECR).

The debate on unconventional gas in the EU and Ukraine brought together more than 50 participants from the world of business and politics. The debate was organized by Konrad Szymanski MEP (ECR) in cooperation with the EU-Ukraine Business Council and the FTI Consulting firm from the U.S.

Participants of the debate included among others: Michael Schuetz from the European Commission (DG Energy), Nikolaas Baeckelmans from ExxonMobil (Director of the EU Affairs), Monica Vicente Cristina from FTI Strategic Communications, U.S. (Vice-President), and Ana Perez Uematsu from KPMG (Global Centre of Excellence for Climate Change & Sustainability).  MORE
