EBA stresses value of gasification
Gasification technology can help deliver on net-zero targets in the European waste, energy, hydrogen and biofuel markets, but more public support is still pending because of a lack of awareness of its benefits, the European Biogas Association (EBA) said in a report published on November 22.
Gasification is already commercialised and ready for scale-up, the EBA said, and the market for gasifying fossil, biomass and waste resources is projected to reach $901bn in size by 2028, up from $479bn in 2019.
"Its success and ability to scale to become the waste-to-energy/fuel method of choice depends on the levels and type of political, policy, economic and commercial support," EBA said. "This support will allow for higher cost reductions and raise awareness of its strong potential to accelerate the EU's net-zero responsibilities for waste, energy, and fuel markets.
