The Economist Throws Political Weight Behind UK Shale Ahead of Lancashire Vote on Cuadrilla Plans

British liberal media are increasingly voicing their endorsement to shale gas in the country, calling the government to streamline regulation.

‘Perhaps the main reason that fracking has not yet flourished in Britain is that, despite Mr Cameron’s rhetoric, shale-gas companies still face a thicket of regulation’ The Economist wrote on Friday.

The Lancashire County Council planning officer recommended that the planning application at Preston New Road should be approved, triggering enthusiastic comments from the representative body for the UK Onshore Oil and Gas industry (UKOOG) and Cuadrilla Resources.

Councillors will vote on whether to accept the planning officers’ recommendations on 23 and 25 June.
