Edison Takes over GN's Caspian Gas Contract
Azerbaijan Gas Supply Company, the commercial operator of Shah Deniz 2 (SD2), has assigned a gas sales contract it had with Spanish Gas Natural to Italian energy company Edison, state-run Socar said April 18. The contract is to last for 25 years and due to start in 2020, following the completion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).
Edison in February completed the purchase of Puglia-based Gas Natural Vendita Italia (GNVI) from Gas Natural – increasing its customer base in Italy by 50% – a condition precedent for the gas contract assignment. The European Commission acknowledged the retail deal was compatible with the antitrust regulation in February. Edison accounted for 22% of Italy's gas imports and 6% of its gas production last year.
