Eneos, Marubeni to develop LNG-fuelled ethylene carrier
Japan’s Eneos Corp and Marubeni Corp have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop an LNG-fuelled ethylene carrier, they said on January 14.
The vessel will be chartered by Marubeni over the long term, for ethylene delivery starting in 2024. The vessel will be the first ethylene carrier equipped with a dual-fuel engine built for ethylene export from Japan. It can reduce emissions of CO2 by roughly 40% compared to conventional ethylene carriers, the companies said.

Eneos and Marubeni said they intend to further develop carbon neutralisation in the ethylene supply chain in order to meet customer needs for low carbon.
