Energy Resources secures rig for Lockyer Deep-1

Australian explorer Energy Resources (ERL) has executed a rig sharing agreement with Strike Energy and a drilling contract with Ensign to drill Perth basin Lockyer Deep-1 gas exploration well, its joint venture partner Norwest Energy said on July 6.

The rig sharing agreement provides for ERL to assume control of the Ensign 970 rig upon completion of operations at Strike's West Erregulla-5 well. Norwest said all long lead items are in place and site works at the Lockyer Deep-1 well location are nearing completion. Drilling is scheduled to commence next month targeting prospective resources of up to 1.1 trillion ftgas.

ERL has received approval from West Australia’s department of mines, industry regulation and safety to suspend the exploration permit EP368 year two end date by six months from June 29 to December 29.

“The significant scale of the Lockyer Deep-1 prospect means that exploration success will be transformational for the company. With the well scheduled to spud during July this is an exciting time for Norwest Energy shareholders,” Norwest managing director, Iain Smith, said.

The Lockyer Deep-1 well location has been selected to test a very large, fault-closed three-way dip structure at the Kingia and High Cliff levels within the Permian gas play's "sweet spot", Norwest said.
