Engie Renews FSRU Sub-Charter to CNOOC

France's Engie said November 2 it has renewed the sub-charter of regasification and storage vessel (FSRU) to China's CNOOC for the coming winter.

The sub-charter is of FSRU GDF Suez Cape Ann at the Chinese port of Tianjin. It arrived there fully laden with LNG and began operations October 28. The vessel will remain there spring 2018.

Cape Ann has previously provided similar services to CNOOC, from November 2013 to January 2017, as a contribution to both LNG and natural gas supply needs, mainly to cover peak gas demand during winter periods. In addition to the usual FSRU activities, Cape Ann will also transfer LNG into smaller on-shore tanks which are used by CNOOC for LNG trucking activity.

Engie Global LNG chief Philip Olivier described  CNOOC as "a long standing partner of Engie" in the LNG sector, adding: "This new contract illustrates Engie’s fast track capabilities to provide safe, reliable and flexible LNG importing solutions to meet the needs of our customers.”

FSRU GDF Suez Cape Ann is owned by Hoegh LNG Partners 50%, Mitsui OSK Lines 48.5% and Tokyo LNG Tanker Ltd 1.5%; it is chartered to Engie.
