Engie signs agreement to supply biomethane to BASF

France’s Engie has signed a seven-year agreement to supply 2.7 to 2.9 TWh of biomethane to Germany’s BASF, the company announced on July 5.

BASF uses certified biomethane at its Ludwigshafen, Germany and Antwerp, Belgium sites as a sustainable alternative to fossil raw materials in its manufacturing process. The German company aims to further expand its product portfolio by offering products with lower or zero product carbon footprints to its customers across industries such as automotive, detergents, textiles, and woodworking. 

Last year, Engie announced it would expand investments in the energy transition to €22-25bn ($23.8-27.1bn) in 2023-25, representing a 50% increase compared with 2021-23. In April this year, Engie announced its entry into the Netherlands' biomethane market with the acquisition of two production units.
