Wales Online: Fracking could result in 'Welsh resources being exploited for English profits'
The UK Government department pushing forward the controversial search for shale gas claims it has received no recent representations from ministers in Wales despite intense local opposition.
Plaid Cymru MP Hywel Williams said the Welsh Government had failed to grasp the potential impact of fracking and said this could result “in a damaging environmental legacy with Welsh resources being exploited for English profits”.
The prospect of “fracking” taking place in South Wales has ignited opposition from environmental campaigners. The process of detonating underground explosions to release gas has been linked to minor earthquakes around Blackpool.
Mr Williams asked what recent representations he had received from the Welsh Government regarding fracking. On June 18 he was told by energy minister Michael Fallon the answer was “none.” MORE
