ENH to Drill Two Gas Wells in Mozambique's Buzi Block

A senior official from Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) said that two wells would be drilled Mozambique’s Buzi block in coming months to test the commercial potential of its natural gas reserves.

According Nelson Ocuane, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, said that acquisition of 2D seismic data in the block has been going on since December last year, Notícias newspaper reported. ENH has a 25% stake in the block.

For Buzi to be economically viable gas reserves of at least 1.5 TCF should be present, the chairman said.

Till date the block has seen investment of about $7.7 million with ENH’s contribution coming to $2 million, the newspaper said. Buzi block is located along the sedimentary basin of Mozambique, one of the less explored hydrocarbon blocks of the country.

The only commercial exploitation of natural gas in the sedimentary basin of Mozambique has made been by Sasol, in Pande and Temane, in Inhambane province.
