Eni Signs Tech Deal with UK Firm
Italy's Eni has signed a deal to use technology developed by the UK's Ovo to improve services to gas customers, the companies said on July 23.
Eni Gas e Luce, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eni, will use Ovo's Kaluza technology platform, which enables suppliers to see real-time data on customer energy use. This helps customers use energy more efficiently, reducing costs and also emissions.
"This partnership represents an important step for Eni Gas e Luce's strategy to expand its international presence and achieve our long-term goal of building a portfolio of 20mn customers globally by 2050," Eni Gas e Luce CEO Alberto Chiarini said. At present the company has 10mn customers spread across four European countries.
"Transitioning towards a clean energy system is the greatest challenge we face in the 21st century," Ovo CEO Stephen Fitzpatrick commented. "To succeed, we will need to develop new technology and to redesign the energy system around the customer."
OVO's technology is already in use in the UK. Eni Gas e Luce will start by deploying it in France, where it is one of the largest independent energy suppliers.
