Eni, Sonatrach pen memo on gas, green hydrogen development in Algeria
Italy's Eni has signed a memorandum of understanding with Algerian national gas company Sonatrach on the further development of gas and potentially green hydrogen in the north African country.
Under the agreement, the pair will look at accelerating the development of existing gas discoveries in Algeria, and evaluate a green hydrogen pilot project in Bir Rebaa North. Eni said the deal was in line with its energy diversification and decarbonisation goals, and would strengthen energy cooperation between Italy and Algeria.

The gas projects the two companies are assessing could potentially yield 3bn m3/year of extra gas supply that could be pumped to Italy via the Transmed pipeline. Italy is reaching out to north African gas producers to access extra supply to replace Russian imports.
