Italy's Eni successfully drilled and tested the Maha 2 appraisal well in the Maha field in the West Ganal block offshore Kalimantan, in Indonesia, it said on June 7.

The well has been drilled to a depth of 2,970 m in 1,115 m water depth and encountered 43 m of gas-bearing net sands. “The production test, which was limited by surface facilities, recorded an excellent gas deliverability of the reservoir flowing at 34mn ft3/day,” Eni said.
The company said that through the test and the coring of the reservoir important data have been collected to perform all the studies required for the preparation of a field development plan for the Maha field, where two other appraisal wells are planned to be drilled.
The development plan will most likely foresee a sub-sea completion and a tie-in to Jangkrik floating production unit, which is 16 km from the field. Being close to existing infrastructure will allow the partners to maximise the synergies and reduce the time and costs of future subsea developments, Eni said.
Eni is the operator of the West Ganal block and its partners are Neptune and state-run Pertamina. Neptune described Indonesia as "a strategically important part" of its production portfolio and said Maha, following the start up at Merakes in April, will support "Indonesia’s growing domestic energy demand and its burgeoning export market."
