Eni's Deepwater Morocco Well is Dry
Eni has failed to find gas or oil with its first Rabat Deep 1 well offshore Morocco. Its junior UK partner on the licence, Chariot Oil & Gas, confirmed April 30 that the well “did not encounter a hydrocarbon accumulation.” It was drilled to a total depth of 3,180 metres.
Eni has a 40% interest and operates the Rabat Deep permits, while Australian Woodside has 25%, Moroccan state ONHYM 25%, and Chariot retains 10%. Chariot was fully carried for the drilling of the Rabat Deep 1 well, under the terms of its farm-out to Eni which was approved in January 2017.
Data collected will be used to calibrate the existing data sets to understand the implications of the well results on the prospectivity of the surrounding area. The well was operated by Eni, having been drilled by the Saipem 12000 drillship, and it will now be plugged and abandoned.
Chariot separately said it is on track and fully funded to drill Prospect S offshore Namibia in the second half of this year.
