Eq Guinea Inks Togo MoU

Equatorial Guinea's mines and hydrocarbons minister has retweeted an announcement of a memo of understanding (MoU) signed by him with his Togolese counterpart to facilitate bilateral LNG trade.

Gabriel Mbaga Obiang signed the agreement with Togo's mines and energy minister Marc Dederiwe Abli-Bidamon. According to Obiang's retweet on April 9, it was signed last week. The retweet linked back to an announcement on conference organiser Africa Oil and Power's website, which has been used in the past also for Obiang's announcements.

The notice said that the MoU is "part of the LNG2Africa initiative, in which Equatorial Guinea is promoting the utilisation of LNG within Africa," adding: "Togo will study the import, regasification of LNG, and its use for power generation." It added that companies Elite Construcciones, Norgas and General Electric took part in the visit and discussed the potential for small scale LNG trade in the region.  Obiang visited Lomé port in Togo following the signature, it added.

Prior to signing the MoU with Togo, Obiang visited his Burkina Faso counterpart Bechir Ismael Quedraogo to follow up on an agreement the two inked September 2017, the latest announcement said, adding: "The parties presented a detailed plan to supply LNG to power plants in Burkina Faso. Once approved, Burkina Faso will immediately benefit from LNG supplies from Equatorial Guinea."
