Equinor, Linde collaborate on H2M Eemshaven blue hydrogen project

Norwegian energy company Equinor and industrial gases firm Linde have joined forces to develop the H2M Eemshaven blue hydrogen project in the Netherlands, Equinor said on January 8.

The project aims to establish a facility in the Eemshaven industrial area, utilising natural gas from the Norwegian continental shelf to produce low-carbon hydrogen with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. More than 95% of the CO2 will be captured and stored under the seabed offshore Norway. 

The H2M Eemshaven project is slated to commence production in late 2028 and is expected to play a crucial role in the transition to cleaner energy sources. The hydrogen plant will be connected to onshore hydrogen pipelines, facilitating distribution in the Netherlands and Germany.

Equinor will secure access to carbon transport and storage capacity and offer low-carbon hydrogen to the market. Linde will build, co-own and operate the hydrogen production and carbon capture and transfer facility.
