Eriell scores Uzbek well workover contract

Drilling contractor Eriell Group has secured a contract from Uzbek-Korean consortium Uz-Kor Gas Chemical to work on 150 wells at the Surgil field in Uzbekistan's northwest Karakalpakstan region.

Eriell won a tender for the contract, which will involve workovers and sidetracking work in the Aral sea area, the company said in a statement on May 10. The Surgil field supplies gas to the Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex, launched in 2016. Both assets are operated by Uz-Kor Gas Chemical, a consortium of Uzbek national oil company Uzbekneftegaz and Korean firms Lotte, Korea Gas and GS E&R.

Eriell has been working with Uz-Kor Gas Chemical since 2013.  It was awarded a contract to overhaul 100 wells at Surgil in 2019, and ended up completing work on 113 by the end of last year, ahead of contractual deadlines.

“In the face of many technical and logistical challenges, we were able to complete the required works successfully and on time, with our specialists displaying high levels of expertise and commitment," the head of Eriell's regional business unit for central Asia, Bakhrambek Ismailov, commented. "I believe our dynamic and highly efficient team was instrumental in unlocking the full potential of these assets and providing feedstock for the Ustyurt gas chemical complex. Collaboration between Eriell Group and Uz-Kor Gas is yet another example of achieving stable gas supplies from the country’s own resources, producing value added products as well as satisfying Uzbekistan’s growing energy needs."

Eriell works with a number of Russian and international oil companies, including Rosneft, Novatek, Gazprom, Gazprom Neft, Lukoil, Gazprom International, Petronas, CNPC and MOL. It announced May 6 that its workovers have added just over 1mn m³/day to the output of another Uzbek client, state Uzbekneftegaz.
