Platts: EU lawmakers want civil liability in offshore oil, gas safety rules

Members of the European Parliament on Wednesday called for provisions for civil liability clauses to be included in new rules for oil and gas safety in offshore waters.

The European Commission in October 2011 proposed EU-level comprehensive safety requirements for offshore oil and gas operations aimed at reducing the risk of an accident in EU waters in the wake of the Macondo disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.  MORE
