ABC: Europe preparing a new competitor for the Southern Gas Corridor
The Southern Gas Corridor from Azerbaijan to the EU, the construction of which should start on September 20, is about to get a new competitor: the European Union actively invites a new energy supplier to the Old World.
According to foreign Mass Media, Karel De Gucht, the EU Commissioner for Trade, announced that US should undertake commitments for export of oil and natural gas to Europe within the Transatlantic Trade Agreement and in the light of geopolitical situation.
“It’s important for us to take this position as soon as possible, because certain events happen in Europe, as you could notice. I cannot imagine that the TTIP (The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) would come into force without such supplies”, - De Gucht said at the meeting with Michael Froman, US Trade Representative, before the negotiations on the trade agreement scheduled at the end of September.
The Commissioner believes that a political agreement on energy may precede the TTIP.
