Politics.hu: Europe needs strategic partnership with Russia, says Szijjártó
Europe needs to maintain strategic partnership with Russia in order to at least partially recover what it has lost in competitiveness since the start of the crisis, Hungary’s minister for foreign affairs and trade said in an interview with Slovak business daily Hospodarske Noviny published on Monday.
Peter Szijjarto was interviewed by the paper in Bratislava, during his first trip abroad last Tuesday.
The Hungarian economy has suffered losses of nearly 300,000 euros daily as a result of the embargo that Russia introduced in reaction to the European sanctions, Szijjarto said. There are no signs of improvement in the situation in the east, the conflict has continued to sharpen and the European economy has suffered from it, he added.
“Europe has lost from its competitiveness since the 2008 crisis and the strategic partnership with Russia is the only way to at least partly regain it,” he said.
