Financial Times: Europe plans more import terminals

Global trading in liquefied natural gas dates to the 1950s in the UK, long before North Sea gas was discovered, when the then government began to look at LNG to diversify its gas sources.

Today, LNG import terminals are in operation in a handful of other European countries including Belgium, France, Italy and Spain. Norway has been operating an LNG export facility on the island of Meloya, near Hammerfest, the world’s northernmost town, for the past five years. Cargoes are shipped to Europe, Asia and South America.

Despite the predicted tightness in supplies over the next three years, there are plans for more.  MORE
