European energy firms seek €4bn in damages over fossil fuel projects: press
Five energy companies are suing four European governments for nearly €4bn ($4.5bn) over the stymying of coal, oil and gas projects amid climate concern, the Financial Times reported on February 21.
The companies including Germany's RWE and Uniper and the UK's Rockhopper have launched cases against the Netherlands, Italy, Poland and Slovenia under the Energy Charter Treaty, the newspaper said. The cases related to decisions by governments that force the closure of coal plants, or prevent the development of specific projects.
