WSJ: Eustream Aims to Link Slovak Gas Networks Across Europe
Slovak pipeline operator Eustream AS said Tuesday it has launched talks with potential partners to connect Western European natural gas pipeline networks with eastern and southeast Europe to help wean the region off Russian gas.
Eustream Chairman Tomas Marecek said his company aims to connect Slovakia’s pipeline networks—with its links to major gas markets in central and Western Europe—with Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey and former Yugoslav states.
The project, called Eastring, would cover full annual gas import demand in Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and the former Yugoslav states, while also offering Ukraine increased capacity, he said.
Eustream is now discussing technicalities with Romanian and Bulgarian gas transit companies. The company is currently the largest supplier of natural gas to Ukraine. MORE
