Expect "good news" on Black Sea gas reserves: Turkey's Erdogan

Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan has said he will announce "good news" regarding the country's gas exploration work in the Black Sea on June 4.

Turkey reported the 302bn m3 Sakarya gas discovery in August 2020 in its Black Sea zone, representing the country's biggest-ever find and one of the largest to be made globally that year. Two months later Erdogan said that following further appraisal work, the resource estimate for Sakarya had been raised to 405bn m3

In an interview with state broadcaster TRT Haber late on June 1, Erdogan said he would make a further announcement during a ceremony in the Black Sea province of Zonguldak on June 4, and would share a video link with the Kanuni drill ship.

Turkey's government has suggested before that Sakarya might come online in 2023 and produce initially 5-10bn m3/year of gas and later 15bn m3/yr.
