ExxonMobil Continues to Eye European Shales

ExxonMobil's withdrawl from shale gas exploration in Poland is not reflective of its interest in unconventional gas activities in Europe.

“There are a number of other countries [across Europe] that people are looking at, including ourselves,” commented David Rosenthal, ExxonMobil Vice President - Investor Relations.

Speaking on the release of company's second quarter results, Rosenthal said that ExxonMobil was working towards obtain permits for drilling it shale gas concessions in Germany, following the realease of an expert study of the risks of hydraulic fracturing.

The “Risikostudie Fracking” indicated that while unconventional reservoirs should be developed slowly and cautiously, there is no factual reason for a ban of the technology used to exploit shale gas ans shale oil..
