FERC Approves Elba #1 For LNG Service
The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc), on September 30, approved a request from Kinder Morgan to place the first train of its brownfield natural gas liquefaction and export project at Elba Island, Georgia, into service.
The Elba Island liquefaction facilities consist of a total of 10 movable modular liquefaction system (MMLS) trains connected directly to Kinder Morgan’s existing re-gasification terminal, which was modified to receive LNG and load it onto LNG carriers.

When all 10 trains are in service, the facility will have a total capacity of about 2.5mn mt/yr. The project carries a capital cost of about $2bn, and Anglo-Dutch major Shell, whose MMLS technology is employed, has contracted for 100% of the facility’s output.
The remaining nine MMLS trains are expected to enter service sequentially over the next nine months, with one each month following the other, Kinder Morgan says on its project website.
