Financial Times: Delays hamper gas solution to power shortfall

Gas-fired power stations that could generate more than a quarter of Britain’s electricity requirements are being held up by industry uncertainty over the government’s energy strategy and concerns over high wholesale fuel prices.

The backlog casts doubt on hopes that a “dash for gas” will help the UK avoid a shortage of power in the next decade. The government, which is due to publish its strategy on gas generation later this month, has identified the fuel as a key element of the country’s future energy mix.  MORE
